It's been quite sometime since the WCM has done a feature car, there are many reasons for this, one of them is the fact that is actually pretty hard work. Getting a car together, finding a good shooting location, and having the driver/owner of the car cooperate is all easier said then done. Which is why when the opportunity came up, we couldn't look past Kevin Gay's '04 Mk4 1.8t Jetta GLS. First off, the easiest mod to notice is the full Votex OE VW body kit. This kit is a hit according to most Mk4 Jetta owners, including a front and rear bumper, and side skirts to match the smooth flow of the OEM stamped skins. The chrome trim along the rub-strips have also been color matched in Platinum Grey to better flow with the new smooth bumpers. Subtle body mods have always been a WCM feature car favorite, and this Mk4 Jet is no different. Sporting a shaved Euro trunk, and mild boser hood, this combo goes perfectly with the whole feel of the car and really sets it apart without going overboard. Completing the exterior is a set of euro stubby mirrors, a Kamei badge-less mesh grille, and 22% window tint all the way around.

Move to the inside of Kevin's GLI and all is not what it seems. Kevin likes to add little things here and there to further set his car apart from the rest, but at a glance most people will never know that any mods have taken place. Take the Turbo S door pins for example, and how the hell could you miss the Passat mirror switch?? The Audi euro light switch controls the smoked Ecode headlights, and rear fog light installed into OEM euro tail lights. The Brushed aluminum e-brake button was not from the factory, nor was the black headliner or pillars, and Kevin threw in the black door cards to match. The center arm rest was deleted, and a sunglasses holder was installed in it's place. Kevin even replaced the headliner shirt hooks with it's MkV GTI counterparts. The stock Jetta dash has been swapped out for a Mk4 GTI dash complete with lighted vents, 3 spoke OE steering wheel, and air conditioned glove box! The pedal set is from an Audi TT, while the shift boot was sourced from a 20th edition GTI. The OEM Navigation system always keeps Kevin alert to where he's at, and the VDO boost gauge set in the NSP pod keeps him alert to boost levels.

Speaking of boost levels, Kevin wasn't all about looks and gadgets, his 1.8t is actually quite a healthy 4-banger. Re-flashed with the Revo Stage 2 program, running at 4bar of fuel pressure, Kevin decided to upgrade to the ECS N75 race valve and replaced his stock DV, which tends to fail at higher boost levels, with a HKS Super Sequential BOV. Exhaust leaves through a GHL down pipe and Remus cat back, gears are selected viva B&M short throw shifter with custom shift knob, while the ECS lightweight UD pulleys, NSP power gasket, and Poly dog bone mounts do their best to squeeze out every last HP gain and get it to the ground..

All the extra power would be useless if the car didn't stick, so Kevin attacked the suspension by swapping the stock boat ride struts and springs for a set of KW V.1 coil-overs, squatting on top of a rare set of staggered Porsche BBS 2 piece wheels wrapped in Nexxen rubber 225/40/18 all around, which could only be fitted by using H&R 25mm Adapters. Neuspeed 25mm front and 28mm rear sway bars have been added to help the Jetta three-wheel into every drive way it tries to enter. Finishing off the Jetta's suspension is the OEM R32 control arm bushings, BFI C-piller bar, and Autotech front lower tie bar.

Kevin has really built himself the ultimate daily driver, and being a family man, it helps to have a comfortable whip just in case the wife and kids come along on the road trip caravans. What sets his car apart is all the little things, this Jetta has so many mods, I probably actually forgot a couple, Kevin even had to revise his mod list cause even he couldn't remember every detail!! Did I write about the titanium wheel lugs in the article?? Oh well, I guess you guys know about 'em now. Thanks Kevin for the feature, and we can't wait to see what else you haved planned.
