This month's feature project belongs to Steve Berg, representing the Northwest with his '05 Passat Wagon. Clean wagons are few and far between, but that didn't stop Steve from going to town with his. What got Steve to start modding this super grocery get'er?? I'll let him tell you in his own words...........

"I bought the car new in 2005, because my wife didn't like filling the tank on our Expedition anymore. The '05 TDI is a 2 liter, 4 cylinder, 16 valve turbo diesel with 134 hp and 247 lb ft of torque. Averages 36 mpg. I've owned about a dozen VW's since I was 15, and I had to have one again. About 350 miles in, she curbed the right rear wheel. That started my mod avalanche.

I want to thank everyone at Watercooled Militia for showing me what else is possible with the watercooled cars... And for showing me how cool and fun a dub forum can be. We have some really nice stuff up here in Washington state- some of the best- but you guys have the weather to mod year round, and it shows. Keep it up, and I hope to drive my B5.5 down to a show in Cali sometime soon!

First up was a set of 18x8.5 two piece A!avantgarde wheels that I found on Ebay. They are very rare BBS made wheels, so I had to have them. The seller said they were 18x7, and one piece. He didn't have a clue what they were, so I got them for under $600. I was doing alright, until my wife curbed the A!'s... Now I had all the leverage I would need to do what I wanted...

I went to TKO Motorwerks in Auburn, WA and Thip recommended a set of Intrax springs that lowered the car about 2.5 inches. He also installed Koni shocks for me and the car was transformed. Thip, Dion, Mike, and Yannick at TKO also set me up with the JOM grill, antenna, eyebrows, euroswitch, and clear cornermarkers. A local shop had a going out of business sale... I went hoping to get some banners/posters or something, but I found a set of 19x8 RS4 replica wheels for sale. One had been mounted but didn't fit the S4 they were for, so I picked them up for $500. I headed on back to TKO, and they got me a set of Kumho tires mounted and balanced for what the Tire Rack was charging for them. I debadged/rebadged it myself, had the front bumper shaved after my car was hit while parked, and got the tint and Recaro child seat locally. TKO is trying to find a good chip for my diesel, and my 247 lb ft of torque will be over 300 lb ft no problem."
