This month's featured project comes straight out of the South Bay brought to you by the one and only Edgar Mendoza. Edgar's goal with the project? To prove that you can have 4-doors, a 2.0L engine, and still have a bad ass Dub. Don't be fooled, this baby is charged by Neuspeed. Edgar picked the charger after being convinced that this was a reliable and cost effective way of getting more power. Boosting 10psi with the Neuspeed 2.4 pulley, this is a pretty damn quick commuter hatch. Edgar didn't stop there though, he installed a Devil'sOwn Alcohol/Water Injection System. For those of you who don't know, water injection has the ability to suppress detonation, allowing the use of higher cylinder pressures. That means being able to get up to 80+hp with choice mods. Speaking of choice mods, Edgar finishes off (for now) his engine with a Techtonics Tuning 260 cam and Jetex cat-back exhuast system. Knowing that his car is now much faster then it was stock, Edgar also decided to throw on some Zimmerman cross drilled rotors to chew into the pads when breaking from high speeds after encounters with unsuspecting 1.8t's
You can take one look at the car's exterior and tell that Edgar couldn't leave it alone either. Or can you? Most people over-look the Euro front bumper and V6 4-motion valance. Edgar decided for now that less is better, and painted the stock rear valance to color match the rest of the Golf for a smooth OEM look. Keeping with the smooth look, Edgar also removed the rear wiper, black'd out the emblems, and went with the headlights off of a 20th Anniversary Edition GTi, and the stock tailights off of a U.S. spec R32. All of the smoothness really sets off the staggered 18X8-18X9 TSW kyalami wheels. The Bilistein shocks and Neuspeed race springs do a nice job of cleaning up the wheel-well gap as well as helping the car handle through the Nor-Cal twisties.
Inside the Golf you'll find that it's as clean and smooth as the rest of the car. The driver's seat has been replaced with a FK Evolution Racing seat, Edgar wanted something that held him in place a little better, he even fab'd up his own mounting brackets for the seat install. From the seat Edgar can keep his eye on the air/fuel ratio and boost thanks to the Autometer and Warner gauges. The dash trim is covered in Carbon Fiber, the Momo shift knob looks at home on top of the Isotta shift boot and the passenger and rear seats are leather from a mk4 VR6. Behind the limo-tint Edgar rocks out to Emo through a Sony MPX900 head unit powered by two Sony Xplode amps and a Alumapro sub.
Although Edgar's car is looking mighty clean, it's still a work in progress. Take into consideration that this car is driven daily, and has been for awhile, the mods that Edgar has chosen fits his car's lifestyle, a great blend between comfort and preformance. Next time you see this Dub on the streets, say what's up. Edgar's always down to meet new Dubbers.
